Autistic spectrum children have difficulty with social engagement and it is a difficult skill to train. Family music therapy has the potential to help social engagement between parents and autistic children but there are few studies available to prove the benefits. A new study published in November 2013 has provided some proof that family music therapy can promote social engagement in children at the severe level of the autistic spectrum. In addition to improving social engagement in the children, parents said the music therapy also improved the parent-child relationship.
