Music Therapy

Although there are no studies that relate the effectiveness of music, art or dance therapy on recurrences of cold sores, there are studies that show the therapies can increase the levels of some immune cells that are involved in fighting the virus.   There are also studies that show the effects of creative therapies on reducing the negative effects of stress, which is a major trigger factor for recurrent herpes simplex outbreaks. One study found that music therapy significantly increased natural killer (NK) cell count and activity (NKCA) in a small  group of 19 patients with neurological diseases (Hasegawa et al 2001) suggesting music therapy has a positive effect on the immune system and potentially a protective effect against viral infection.
