Rattlepod species have been used in traditional medicine as an antimicrobial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory. A group at Sao Paulo University in Brazil have carried out the first study that investigates Crotalaria pallida's estrogenic activity. Results showed that the ethanol stigmasterol extract showed estrogenic activity and they conclude that it has potential for use as hormone replacement therapy during menopause.
