A US group investigated 425 different botanical substances for their effects on adipocytes (fat cells). Naringenin was found to inhibit both adipogenesis (creation of fat cells) and the functioning of mature adipocytes. Not only was the ability of fat cells to store fat reduced, but insulin stimulated glucose uptake was also inhibited. The group concluded that naringenin may have a negative impact on adipocyte-related diseases.
