A collaboration between an Austrian and a Chinese group has led to the publication of their first results in a study investigating acupuncture as a complementary therapy for patients with burnout syndrome.  Two groups of patients were treated, group 1 with manual needle acupuncture and group 2 with laser needle acupuncture. Heart rate and heart rate variability were measured and both types of acupuncture had a significant effect on both heart rate and heart rate variability.  The teams are carrying out further studies to confirm the preliminary findings.
